Academy of Arts and Engineering
Launching in the 2012-2013 school year, the academy will provide a continuum of activities and courses for students in grades 10 through employment. The first schools in the academy will be engineering and medical arts with the humanities and performing arts academy beginning in 2013-2014.
The district has partnered with Penn State Behrend, Edinboro University and Gannon University and the businesses noted below to plan activities and courses of the academy. Partners for the medical academy include LECOM and Hamot Hospital. Engineering partners include Great Lakes Case and Cabinets, C&J Industries, NuTech, Great Lakes Automation, Deiss and Halmi Engineering and H&H Machined Products.
The academies will expose students to real-world learning opportunities through field trips, guest speakers. shadow experiences and 40 hour unpaid internships. Partners work closely with high school faculty to develop lessons and experiences to give our high school students an up close and personal look at what a career in engineering or medicine will look like. The academy will also stress problem solving and critical thinking.
