Strategic Plan

I was never good at memorizing. Some catchy phrases stick in my mind, though. Two examples are: “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” and, “You need to plan the work and work the plan.”

This entire school year, the district will be involved in strategic planning. This will be a grass-roots planning process. Instead of a group of people sitting in a room creating a mission statement, we will send our team to interview every district employee and as many community members as would like to talk to us. From our discussions, we will discover the mission and core values that live within the General McLane community.
The process begins in September and October when our interviewers sit with groups of 6 – 12 individuals and ask questions about what is good about our district. While we recognize we have many areas we can approve, we start with the positive. From these interviews, we will discern our mission and core values.

In January and February, we will go back to the people who spoke to us in September and October and share the mission and values we discerned. At that point, we will begin to take a hard look at how we fail to live out our mission and values. We will identify the external and internal forces impacting education and keeping in mind the areas needing improvement, will develop three to five district-wide objectives that we will diligently pursue.
This process is about community. A community where school, parents, social agencies and churches all work together to nurture and train our children. It is important that all who wish to be listened to are heard.

We will be scheduling meetings at each of our buildings in the near future. We will also go into neighborhoods and conduct our interviews. We ask you consider attending one of the scheduled meetings, OR, sponsor a meeting in your home.

If you can round up 6 – 12 friends and neighbors who are part of the General McLane community on some evening in September or October, we will send two interviewers to your home that night. Some light refreshments, a space where all in attendance can sit in a circle and 60-90 minutes of time is all that is needed on your part. You will also need to host round two in January or February. If you would like to host an in-home meeting, please contact Karen Katich at 273-1033, extension 5901.

The identification of our mission and core values is critically important to the future of our district. We will pursue passionately and welcome you on our journey.
