Superintendent’s Report – March 15, 2017


Wrestlers place in PIAA
For the first time since 2004, General McLane had a pair of place winners in the PIAA State Tournament. Ethan Laird finished his career as a PIAA 195 lbs State Runner Up and became the program’s most successful wrestler. Owen Watkins placed 8th in the state for the 152 lbs class.

Reflections Winners
Numerous General McLane students were honored for their achievement in the 2017 National PTA Reflections arts in education program. Regional winners include Presley O’Bannon (3rd place Visual Arts), Chloe Kiser (1st place Music Composition), and Lucas Leasure (3rd place Photography). McKean Elementary winners included: Jane Howard (1st place Musical composition) and Parker Howard (3rd place Photography). Kiser is moving onto the National Level!

Jackson Spires
MS student Jackson Spires earns 3rd place at the PA Junior Wrestling State Competition.

Bayhawks Uniform Design
The Erie BayHawks’ March 25 game will feature a uniform designed by General McLane High School sophomore Kaley Berger! Berger placed first in the Uniform Design Contest, freshman Ellen Eisert placed second and Mrs. Hodas placed third! Students submitted designs as part of Digital Art class!

Battle of the Books
Both HS and MS students competed in the Battle of the Books Competition at Gannon.

Maestro Myer visits EE
Maestro Daniel Meyer of the Erie Philharmonic presented to Edinboro Elementary second graders. The entire second grade also joined together to sing and sign a song for him.

Camp Invention Registration Open
Camp Invention is for students in grades 1-6 throughout all of Erie County. The program takes place at Edinboro Elementary School June 12-16, 2017. Camp Invention participants save $25 if registered by March 20, 2017.

Read Across America Day
GMHS students visited elementary students for Read Across America Day. The cafeteria also served the elementary students Green Eggs and Ham! JWPMS students in Miss Stonis, Ms. Shee and Mrs. Brook’s fifth grade classrooms participated in a “Read-a-thon”, with guest readers Mr. Hansen and Mr. Buto!

The MS MATHCOUNTS team placed 4th place at the competition at Gannon University. JWPMS students included: Ethan Zajac-Woodie (8th), Caleb Minner (7th), Zachary Rolland (7th), Joe Preston (8th), Adrianna Evankovich (8th), Elena Halmi (8th), Kellen Smith (8th), Rachel Wooten (7th), Dylan Throop (8th), Benjamin Kalmey (8th), and Avery VanDyke (7th). MS teacher Monica Mook serves as the advisor.

Worlds Dance
Seniors Amanda Laughlin and Libby Myers will be headed to Orlando this April for the annual United States All Star Federation (USASF) Dance Worlds™ competition.

Lofgren receives citation
High School junior Alex Lofgren was presented a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Citation by Representative Ryan Bizzarro. The citation was given in honor of his recent achievements with CAP, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

Relay for Life
GMHS and JWPMS held a joint assembly for Relay for Life. The following day, Don McGahen, Heather Helsley, Todd Sturgess, Mary Cousins and Tim Snair die their hair purple!

Science Fair
Both McKean and Edinboro Elementary schools hosted their annual science fair. A great time was had by all!
