Superintendent’s Report – March 21, 2018
Broadway Dinner takes place April 6-8, 2018. Tickets went on sale on March 5 and sold out for Friday and Saturday. There are still tickets for Sunday’s performance.
Athletes at States
General McLane had three athletes competing at the state level: Andrew Brest (11th) and Matt Leehan (9th) competed in the 2018 PIAA Wrestling Championships and Luke Edmonds competed in the PIAA Swim Championships.
JWPMS students hear from Holocaust survivor
James W. Parker Middle School students recently heard from Holocaust survivor Peter Summerfield during a Skype event.
TEAMS has two first place finishes at local competition
General McLane TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude in Mathematics and Science) recently competed at the local engineering competition. Team A took First Place in the 11th / 12th grade large school division, Team B took 5th place ( just 4 points behind 3rd place), and the 9th / 10th grade team took First Place!
McKean Science Fair
McKean Elementary students and family members recently celebrated a night of science. The event was packed with activities and displays for McKean students, families and friends.
American Heart Association Fundraiser
McKean Elementary School students raised $2200 for the American Heart Association.
Read Across America
GMHS students continued the tradition and visited both McKean and Edinboro Elementary School to read to the students in honor of Read Across America Day. There were also other events in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday at multiple schools!
JWPMS’ MATHCOUNTS team placed third out of 18 schools during the regional competition. Nathanael Robbins, Zachary Rolland, Caleb Minner, Avery Van Dyke, and Aiden Seeman placed in the top 23 out of 118 students, Seeman earned the top spot from JWPMS with a 14th finish.
Support for Grad
JWPMS 5th graders created and sent cards of support to a former GM graduate, Brandon Siciliano (’17) who is currently in basic training near Chicago, Illinois.
State Reflections Contest
General McLane School District once again had multiple winners at the Erie County Reflections and Region 1 Awards ceremony. JWPMS’ seventh grader Chloe Kiser and McKean’s students Caden Roth (K), Landrey Sweet (3rd) and Parker Howard (1st) earned medals at both the county and regional level. Both Kiser and Howard qualified at the State level and will be honored at Penn State University on April 29th.
Edinboro debuts coffee cart
Edinboro Elementary’s ES and LS classrooms recently debuted the Coffee Cart. Students will gain hands-on experience and acquire the knowledge needed to gain real world skills by selling coffee, tea, cappuccino, hot chocolate and baked goods to staff members.
Golden Apple Winner
General McLane High School teacher Michael Smrekar received the Golden Apple Award. Colton Morosky nominated Mr. Smrekar. This honor aired last night and again on Thursday morning, March 22.
EE students study the moon
Second graders participated in several learning stations that focused on the moon. This was thanks to the Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative’s 2017 Clearly Brighter Teacher Grant.
