Conceptual Mathematics

General McLane School District is committed to a comprehensive approach to Conceptual Mathematics in every facet of its math curriculum. The purpose of this approach is to create life-long learners who are able to apply math concepts with the ability to question and think critically about their mathematical experiences. The district has adopted an inquiry (hands-on) approach to the teaching of mathematics (K-5). The Envisions Math program, coupled with classroom manipulatives and calendar math kits, allows teachers to instruct students at a much deeper, more conceptual level. The district has developed Common Core Quarterly Assessments at each grade level to ensure consistency within and across grade levels.

General McLane’s conceptual approach to mathematics is intended to give students the problem-solving skills they need to function effectively as workers and citizens in today’s world, a world that increasingly depends on mathematics and science.
