Superintendent’s Report – October 21, 2020

GM Access

GMHS has created an after-school program designed to provide tutoring and additional help to those students that are struggling academically this year called “GM Access.” The program runs Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:45- 5 p.m. An activity bus is set up to get kids to either Edinboro or McKean elementary schools if they don’t have rides. Students may voluntarily enter the program or may be recommended by a teacher, parent or guidance counselor.

Homecoming Parade

We celebrated our Homecoming in a new COVID-19 way with a community-based drive-thru Homecoming Parade event. Our fall sports teams lined our back parking lot and cheered as cars drove through. We estimated more than 400 people attended with some 200 cars driving through. We received almost $5,000 in donated goods from the Edinboro and McKean communities to pass out during the parade, plus we held our annual Alumni Tailgate during the parade and grilled hotdogs and passed them out.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

While our Edinboro Elementary students couldn’t physically visit our local pumpkin patches due to COVID-19 restrictions, our kindergarten and third grade teachers brought the pumpkin patches to them. The entire kindergarten class got to “pick” pumpkins in a patch the teachers created behind the school on Oct. 14 and the third graders got to “pick” theirs in a patch created in front of the school on Oct. 16. The kids then learned with their pumpkins all week through counting, weighing, measuring and more.

Enrichment Videos at JWPMS

Parker Middle School Science and Social Studies teachers are getting creative with the ways they’re reaching students with enrichment videos. They’re taking students to different historical places in the community to teach history lessons. Last week, they spent the day at a bee farm to demonstrate a science lesson.
